Pirates AFL Updates: Pair of Prospects Have Huge Games

The Scottsdale Scorpions dropped an 11-10 heartbreaker against the Peoria Javelinas on Wednesday night, but a pair of Pittsburgh Pirates prospects had key roles in the offensive outburst.
From the nine spot in the lineup, catcher Geovanny Planchart had a game-high four hits, finishing 4 for 5 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored. Planchart’s homer was his second of the Arizona Fall League and the 23-year-old now carries a 1.228 OPS.
Kervin Pichardo also helped in pacing Scottsdale’s lineup. Like Planchart, the Pirates’ infield prospect connected on a home run. Pichardo finished the game 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a pair of runs. He bumped his OPS up to 1.019 through six games played.
Outfielder Sammy Siani singled in a pinch-hit appearance in the bottom of the ninth. He’s hitting .387 so far, good for fourth on the team and just behind Planchart (.389).
The lone pitching prospect from the Pirates to appear in the game was right-hander Brandan Bidois, who allowed a run and struck out two in a lone inning of relief.
The Scorpions (5-8) will continue their AFL slate against the Mesa Solar Sox (7-6) on Thursday evening.
