PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed veteran left-hander Ryan Borucki to a minor-league contract and plan to assign him to Triple-A Indianapolis, where right-hander Chase De Jong will join the team after being designated for assignment earlier this week and clearing waivers.

Borucki, 29, was recently DFA’s by the Chicago Cubs and cleared waivers. He made eight relief appearances for Triple-A Iowa this season and was 1-0 with a 12.00 ERA, 2.11 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in nine innings.

In all or parts of five major-league seasons, Borucki went 10-9 with a 4.45 ERA in 96 games, including 19 starts, with the Toronto Blue Jays (2018-22) and Seattle Mariners (2022). The Blue Jays selected Borucki in the 15th round of the 2012 amateur draft from Mundelein (Ill.) High School.

De Jong, 29, struggled in five relief appearances for the Pirates this season. He had a 10.61 ERA and 1.92 WHIP.
