Pirates Sign Four Draft Picks to Bring 14 Under Contract

The Pittsburgh Pirates signed four of their later-round draft picks Tuesday, bringing the total to 14 of the 21 selected last week. All four were assigned to the Florida Complex League team in Bradenton

  • Outfielder Tanner Treadway, the 10th-round pick from University of Oklahoma. He hit .370 this year with 18 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 66 RBIs in 68 games.
  • Catcher Nick Cimillo, the 16th-round pick from Rutgers. He was an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings third-team All-America after hitting a Big Ten-leading .385 to go with a .707 slugging percentage and 1.199 OPS.
  • Right-hander Jaycob Deese, the 17th-round pick from the University of Houston. He was 5-3 with one save, a 5.19 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 85 innings.
  • Right-hander Elijah Birdsong, the 18th-round pick from University of The Pacific. He had 55 strikeouts in 44.1 innings.
