Pirates Roster Moves: Colin Holderman to IL, Chase Shugart Recalled

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-handed relief pitcher Colin Holderman on the 15-day injured list with a right knee sprain.
Holderman pitched for the Pirates’ in their 10-4 loss to the New York Yankees on Saturday at PNC Park. In relief of Bailey Falter, he surrendered a bases-clearing double against Anthony Volpe to give the Yankees a critical 8-4 advantage.
Holderman has struggled to begin the season. In five appearances, he carries a 9.64 ERA (5er/4.2ip) on six hits with with four walks, a hit by pitch and six strikeouts.
To take his place in the bullpen, the Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Chase Shugart from Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates acquire Shugart from the Boston Red Sox this offseason for pitching prospect Matt McShane.
Shugart made his big-league debut with the Boston Red Sox last season and made six appearances. He posted a 4.15 ERA with eight strikeouts in 8.2 innings.
The 28-year-old made one appearance with Indianapolis prior to his promotion and threw two-shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking a pair and striking out three. In his minor-league career, he’s gone 27-19 with a 4.66 ERA and 10 saves across 164 appearances/50 starts.
Shugart was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Texas. He will wear No. 55 with the Pirates.
