The Pirates plan on bringing Cubs bullpen catcher Chad Noble to serve as the team’s catching coordinator, sources told Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Jason Mackey. John Baker indicated earlier in the offseason that this is a position the Pirates’ intended to add.

Noble had been serving as the Cubs Major League bullpen catcher since the start of the 2014 season and won a World Series in that role in 2016. Prior to that, Noble played four minor league seasons with the Cubs after being drafted in the 37th round in 2010.

The 34-year-old attended Northwestern University where he majored in economics. He was named a two-time Academic All-Big Ten. Noble is a native of Rockwall, Texas.
