With both the major league and minor league season coming to an end, fans will now look forward to winter league and Arizona fall league updates soon. On Wednesday, five Pirates prospects were selected by a singular team to play in the Dominican Winter League.

The Pirates’ prospects in question are Liover Peguero (2nd round), Yoyner Fajardo (7th round), Dariel Lopez (8th round), Adrian Florencio (8th round), and Emmanuel Mejia (13th round). All five of these prospects were selected by the Cibao Giants, who most recently won the 2014-2015 winter league title.

UPDATE: since the making of this article, an additional 6 Pirate prospects have been selected to play winter league ball.

  1. Endy Rodriguez
  2. Eddy Yean
  3. Maikol Escotto
  4.  Luis Ortiz
  5. Domingo Gonzales
  6. Michell Miliano

Peguero:

Lopez:

Florencio:

Fajardo:

Mejia:

Of course, the biggest prospect on this list is Liover Peguero, and it remains to be seen if the Pirates have given the green light on any of these players to continue into the winter. It would make the most sense to allow at least the hitters to continue for the sake of more reps and at-bats.
