Pirates Prospect Watch: Diego Castillo Walks it Off; Anthony Solometo Shoves

The Pirates Prospect Watch is back after an off day Monday. Two Pirates prospects were honored with player of the week awards during that off day—Florida State League Pitcher of the Week, Po-Yu Chen, and Player of the Week Jase Bowen. With the Pirates farm system back in action Tuesday night, let’s see which prospects stood out.

Indianapolis Indians

OF Travis Swaggerty

  • Game: 2 for 4 with a double
  • Season at Triple-A: .271 average with seven home runs and 41 RBIs

INF Diego Castillo

  • Game: 1 for 5 with two RBIs
  • Season at Triple-A: *First game at Triple-A in 2022

Indianapolis beat Louisville 5-4 thanks to a walk-off single by the recently optioned Castillo. Cody Bolton pitched two scoreless innings, and Swaggerty continued to show progress.

Altoona Curve

INF Andres Alvarez

  • Game: 3 for 4 with two solo home runs
  • Season: .238 average with 17 home runs and 41 RBIs

C/INF/OF Blake Sabol

  • Game: 2 for 4 with a double
  • Season: .271 average with 12 home runs and 48 RBIs

Not a whole lot to speak of, offensively for Altoona as it fell to Akron 5-2. Alvarez was the only contributor as he drove in two runs. J.C. Flowers pitched three shutout innings.

Greensboro Grasshoppers

INF Dariel Lopez

  • Game: 2 for 4
  • Season: .287 average with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs

OF Hudson Head

  • Game: 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a home run
  • Season: .226 average with nine home runs and 34 RBIs

Greensboro was involved in yet another high-scoring affair as uit fell to Bowling Green 11-6. Head provided a spark with a three-run homer. Greensboro’s pitching staff struggled mightily.

Bradenton Marauders

LHP Anthony Solometo

  • Game: three innings pitched, two hits, zero earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts
  • Season: 25.1 innings pitched, 3.55 ERA, ten walks, and 27 strikeouts.

INF Tsung-Che Cheng

  • Game: 1 for 1 with a walk and a stolen base
  • Season: .243 average with 20 stolen bases and 34 RBIs

In a low-scoring affair, Bradenton beat Fort Myers 2-1 in a shortened seven-inning game. Solometo shoved after Bubba Chandler struggled with command, walking four in 3.1 innings pitched.
