Pirates Prospect Watch: Tres Gonzalez Does it All in Greensboro Debut

Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects Draft

Prior to the game action on Tuesday night, Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Tres Gonzalez was promoted from Low-A Bradenton to High-A Greensboro.

With Bradenton this season, Gonzalez hit .299 with an .830 OPS, four doubles, one home run, 12 RBIs and six steals in 19 games leading to the promotion.

The 2022 fifth-round draft pick carried over the strong start to his season with a big night at the plate for the Grasshoppers in his first taste of High-A.

In addition to Gonzalez, here are the Pirates’ prospects who stood out on Tuesday night.

Indianapolis (10-16)

Altoona (10-10)

SS Liover Peguero

  • Game stats: 1 for 3, one double, one run, two walks, three steals
  • Season stats: .242/.342/.318, five doubles, seven RBIs, nine steals, 17 games

LF Lolo Sanchez

  • Game stats: 3 for 4, two doubles, one RBI, one steal
  • Season stats: .228/.348/.368, two doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs, one steal, 15 games

Peguero and Saanchez combined for six times on base and four steals but Altoona was defeated by the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-2.

Right-hander Kyle Nicolas allowed five runs in five innings but he also struck out 10 batters. Pirates prospects Henry Davis and Matt Gorski each had two hits.

Greensboro (14-8)

CF Hudson Head

  • Game stats: 3 for 4, two triples, one double, one RBI, two runs
  • Season stats: .258/.347/.515, four doubles, two triples, three home runs, right RBIs, three steals, 18 games

LF Tres Gonzalez

  • Game stats: 2 for 4, one home run, three RBIs, two runs, one steal
  • Season stats: .500/.500/1.250, one home run, three RBIs, one steal, one game

In addition to Gonzalez, Head had a terrific game at the plate, but it was all for naught. Greensboro allowed four runs in the bottom of the ninth as they were walked-off 8-7 by the Winston-Salem Dash.

Pirates’ prospect Tsung-Che Cheng had two hits, walked twice and stole his eighth base of the season.

Bradenton (14-8)

LHP Dominic Perachi

  • Game stats: 5.0 innings, three hits, no runs, one walk, six strikeouts
  • Season stats: 1-0, 2.87 ERA, 15.2 innings, 18 hits, eight walks, 18 strikeouts, four appearances/four starts

DH Shalin Polanco

  • Game stats: 1 for 3, one home run, two RBIs, one run
  • Season stats: .196/.373/.304, two doubles, one home run, four RBIs, two steals, 13 games

Perachi earned his first victory of the season and Polanco went deep for the first time for the Marauders in their 5-2 win over the Tampa Tarpons.

Pirates prospect Termarr Johnson drove in a run with a double while Rodolfo Nolasco collected two RBIs.
