Pittsburgh Pirates, Pirates prospects, MLB Offseason

When looking at some possible under-the-radar Pittsburgh Pirates’ prospects, two of them call Low-A Bradenton home and each was impressive on Saturday.

Right-hander J.P. Massey has been racking up strikeouts this season and he picked up nine more in only five innings for the Marauders.

Outfielder Enmanuel Terrero, meanwhile, has seemingly been highlighted in just about every edition of Pirates Prospect Watch this season.

In addition to Massey and Terrero, there are plenty of prospects with noteworthy performances. Here are the highlights.

Indianapolis (17-20)

C Endy Rodriguez

  • Game stats: 1 for 2, one run, one walk, one HBP, one steal
  • Season stats: .250/.340/.398, two doubles, one triple three home runs, 11 RBIs, three steals, 22 games

A coupe of top Pirates’ prospects had nice games at the plate for Indianapolis in their 3-1 win over the St. Paul Saints.

Right-hander Colin Selby earned his third save of the season by throwing a scoreless ninth inning. He didn’t allow a baserunner and struck out two.

Altoona (15-15)

Thanks to Fraizer’s contributions at the plate and Nicolas’ on the mound, Altoona got to .500 with a 5-4 win over the Akron RubberDucks.

Pirates prospect Lolo Sanchez hit his third homer of the year while Andres Alvarez went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a pair of runs.

Despite home runs from Siani and Bowen, the Grasshoppers were defeated 9-5 by the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.

Pirates prospect Ernny Ordonez had two hits while reliever Jaycob Deese threw two innings of scoreless relief with two punch outs.

Mojica backed Massey’s excellent start with a home run as Bradenton defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 4-2.

Like Mojica, Pirates prospect Shalin Polanco homered for the Marauders. Terrero, meanwhile, doubled, walked twice, drove in a run and scored once. The 20-year-old now has an OPS of .887 on the season.
