Pirates prospects

In recent games, Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Liover Peguero has been on fire at the plate for the Altoona Curve.

The infielder continued his hot streak with three more hits including a pair of home runs for the Curve in their win on Saturday.

Pegeuro has hits in eight of his last nine contests and has raised his batting average over 50 points and his OPS over the .800 mark thanks to what he’s been able to do with the bat of late.

In addition to Peguero, here are some of the standouts.

Indianapolis (20-23)

RF Canaan Smith-Njigba

  • Game stats: 1 for 2, one double, one walk
  • Season stats: .217/.345/.435, four doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, one steal, 13 games

RHP J.C. Flowers

  • Game stats: 1.0 inning, one hit, no runs, one walk, no strikeouts
  • Season stats: 1-0, 3.54 ERA, 8er/20.1ip, 18 hits, 12 walks, 24 strikeouts, 11 appearances/one start

Smith-Njigba was the only Pirates’ prospect to record a hit in the Indians’ 1-0 loss to the Iowa Cubs. Flowers was used as an opener for Caleb Smith and tossed a scoreless opening frame.

Altoona (18-18)

SS Liover Peguero

  • Game stats: 3 for 3, two home runs, three RBIs, two runs
  • Season stats: .276/.353/.455, 12 doubles, four home runs, 19 RBIs, 11 steals, 33 games

RF Henry Davis

  • Game stats: 1 for 2, one home run, one RBI, one run, one walk
  • Season stats: .311/.463/.660, five doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 22 RBIs, five steals, 30 games

Peguero’s big game helped lift Altoona to a 6-4 win over the Bowie Baysox on Saturday. Davis belted his 10th home run of the season and looked good in right field for the Curve.

Greensboro (20-18)

3B Jackson Glenn

  • Game stats: 3 for 4, one home run, three RBIs, two runs, one walk, one steal
  • Season stats: .323/.409/.566, six doubles, six home runs, 26 RBIs, three steals, 27 games

LF Jase Bowen

  • Game stats: 1 for 5, one home run, three RBIs, one run
  • Season stats: .256/.321/.504, seven doubles, eight home runs, 28 RBIs, seven steals, 31 games

Glenn’s huge day and a home run from Bowen wasn’t enough for Greensboro as they were defeated by the Asheville Tourists 9-7.

Catcher Eli Wilson was on base three times and scored twice.

Bradenton (21-17)

RHP J.P. Massey

  • Game stats: 6.0 innings, one hit, no runs, one walk, five strikeouts
  • Season stats: 2-2, 2.76 ERA, 9er/29.1ip, 22 hits, 14 walks, 40 strikeouts, seven appearances/five starts

  • Season stats: 0-1, 2.31 ERA, 3er/11.2ip, six hits, eight walks, 19 strikeouts, five appearances/two starts

Massey’s brilliant season continued with another excellent start for the Marauders in their 3-1 win over the Clearwater Threshers. Peralta earned his first save of the season with two sparkling innings to close the game.

Pirates prospect Javier Rivas drove in all three of Bradenton’s runs in the win while Termarr Johnson drew three walks.
