Pirates Prospect Watch: Liover Peguero Continues Strong Month
It was a rough day for both the Indianapolis Indians and Altoona Curve as both teams lost by nine runs in their respective games on Thursday.
Even so, there were a few Pirates’ prospects who performed well, including infielder Liover Peguero, who stayed hot at the late for the Curve.
Here are some of the notable performances down on the Pirates’ farm from Thursday.
Indianapolis Indians (70-67)
LF Tucupita Marcano
- Game:Â 2 for 4 with a home run, an RBI and a run
- Season:Â .348/.413/.515, five doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, 16 games
RF Jared Oliva
- Game:Â 1 for 3 with a home run, an RBI, a run and a walk
- Season:Â .261/.315/.424, 19 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 32 RBIs, 17 steals, 88 games
The Indians relied on the long ball for their offense, but it didn’t matter much as Indianapolis fell to the Toledo Mud Hens 12-3.
Marcano didn’t hit for much power with the Pirates this season, but he displayed some pop after going deep foe Indianapolis on Thursday. Oliva has enjoyed a bit of a power surge at the plate of late.
Cody Bolton pitched two scoreless innings on the mound.
Altoona Curve (69-65)
LHP Omar Cruz
- Game:Â 2.1 innings, no hits, no runs, one walk, five strikeouts
- Season:Â 3-3, 5.11 ERA, 61.2 innings, 61 hits, 27 walks, 69 strikeouts, 22 games/five starts
SS Liover Peguero
- Game:Â 1 for 3 with a walk and a steal
- Season:Â .259/.305/.389, 22 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs, 58 RBIs, 28 steals, 119 games
The Curve were blanked 9-0 by the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday. Cruz looked strong out of the bullpen for Altoona as five of his seven recorded outs were punch outs.
Peguero continued his strong stretch at the plate in the month of September. Through 11 games this month, Peguero has an .826 OPS and has stolen five bases.
It was a rare rough outing for top pitching prospect Quinn Priester, who allowed seven earned runs in just 3.2 innings.
