Pirates Prospect Watch: Bradenton Erupts For 16 Runs

Among the Pittsburgh Pirates prospects who stood out on Wednesday were a whole bunch of position players with Low-A Bradenton.

The Marauders exploded for 16 runs on 18 hits and scored at least one run in each of the first seven innings of the game.

Looking at the lineup, eight of the nine players had at least one hit while six players drove in at least one run in a complete team effort at the plate.

The club went 10 for 26 with runners in scoring position — maybe the big league club should take notes.

Indianapolis (16-18)

RHP Quinn Priester

  • Game stats: 6.0 innings, six hits, two runs, two walks, four strikeouts
  • Season stats: 3-3, 5.40 ERA, 19er/31.2ip, 32 hits, 11 walks, 33 strikeouts, seven appearances/seven starts

CF Chavez Young

  • Game stats: 2 for 3, one run, one walk
  • Season stats: .188/.303/.329, five doubles, two triples, one home run, 11 RBIs, nine steals, 28 games

Make it two straight strong starts for Priester who earned his third win of the season in the Indians’ 4-2 win over the St. Paul Saints. Young was on base three times in the game.

Pirates prospects Nick Gonzales and Malcom Nuñez each had a pair of hits while Endy Rodriguez drove in a run with a doulble.

Altoona (13-14)

DH Matt Gorski

  • Game stats: 1 for 3, one home run, one RBI, one run, one walk
  • Season stats: .231/.295/.462, three doubles, five home runs. 13 RBIs, five steals, 21 games

1B Mason Martin

  • Game stats: 1 for 3, one home run, one RBI, one run, one walk
  • Season stats: .194/.398/.468, five doubles, four home runs, nine RBIs, four steals, 19 games

Gorski and Martin each homered but Altoona fell 7-2 at the hands of the Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday.

In his first start off the injured list, Pirates prospect Jared Jones allowed one run in 2.1 innings of work.

Greensboro (18-11)

LF Sammy Siani

  • Game stats: 1 for 3, one home run, three RBIs, one run, one walk
  • Season stats: .300/.417/.500, three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBIs, eight steals, 19 games

CF Tres Gonzalez

  • Game stats: 2 for 3, two RBIs, two runs
  • Season stats: .346/.414/.462, one home run, seven RBIs, three steals, seven games

The pair of outfielders helped lead the charge for Greensboro in their 8-4 win over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.

Pirates prospect Tsung-Che Cheng tripled, walked, scored twice and stole a base. Outfielder Hudson Head was on base twice and drove in a pair

Bradenton (17-12)

3B Javier Rivas

  • Game stats: 3 for 4, one home run, four RBIs, two runs, one walk
  • Season stats: .229/.275./302, one double, two home runs, 19 RBIs, 25 games

RF Rodolfo Nolasco

  • Game stats: 3 for 5, one home run, one double, two RBIs, three runs, one walk
  • Season stats: .326/.456/.630, eight doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs, one steal, 13 games

Rivas and Nolasco each homered as part of three-hit performances in Bradenton’s dominating 16-3 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

In addition to Rivas and Nolasco, Jesus Castillo and Geovanny Planchart each had three hits and drove in three runs. Termarr Johnson and Tanner Tredaway each had two hits.

On the mound, Pirates prospect Owen Kellington held Lakeland to one run in three innings and struck out five.
