Pittsburgh Pirates, Bubba Chandler

In Saturday’s version of Pirates Prospects Daily, we highlighted several top prospects who displayed their skills, including Mike Burrows, who pitched a scoreless inning during the Futures Game during All-Star week. Sunday afternoon/evening, several Pirates prospects deserve some highlighting, and yes, Bubba Chandler is one of them. You people just can’t get enough of Chandler.

Here are some of the top performers Sunday down on the farm:

Indianapolis Indians

N/A, the Pirates Triple-A team did not play Sunday and is not scheduled to play until July 22nd against the Twins Triple-A club. The series will take place at Victory Field in Indy.

Altoona Curve

Carmen Mlodzinski

Season: 3-5, 4.45 ERA, 67 strikeouts, and 28 walks in 64.2 innings pitched

Fabricio Marcias

Game: 2-3 with a double and three RBIs

Season at Multiple Levels: .277/.310/.439 slash line, five homers, and 31 RBIs in 148 at-bats

Although Matt Fraizer hit a homer and Connor Scott went 2-3 at the plate as well, the Curve were propelled to their 8-3 win by good starting pitching from Carmen Mlodzinski and a very impressive three RBI performance from Marcias.

Greensboro Grasshoppers

Nick Garcia

Game: One inning pitched, one hit, no runs, no walks, and three strikeouts

Greensboro had a rough night. Due to the All-Star break, the Grasshoppers wanted to exhaust every option in their bullpen and used eight different pitchers in a 5-1 loss. Brown had the only RBI for the Pirates’ High-A squad.

Bradenton Maruaders

Carlos Jimenez

Game: five innings pitched, three hits, no earned runs, three walks, and five strikeouts

Season: 1-5, 3.40 ERA, 25 walks, 70 strikeouts, in 50.1 innings pitched

Bubba Chandler

Season: .229/.391/.571 slash line, three homers, 11 RBIs in 35 at-bats.

Carlos Jimenez pitched a brilliant five innings for the Pirates Single-A club in game one of the doubleheader. Bubba Chandler decided to grow a clutch gene and delivered the games only run in walk-off fashion for a sac-fly.
