Pirates Postgame: Pirates Pitching Gets Shelled In 14-2 Loss

Published

on

Not much to say about this game other than it was quite awful. Roansy Contreras got the start and gave a pretty mixed bag. Though having 10 strikeouts in 4.2 innings seems quite good, the 6 earned along with a first inning grand slam is not. It seemed like hitters were swinging and missing at his pitches, based on the 44% whiff rate, or hitting him pretty hard for a base hit.

If you thought this was the worst part of the game, well then you are wrong. The broken down bullpen of the Pittsburgh Pirates capped it off by allowing 8 earned runs in their final 3.1 innings. If there was any bright spot in all of this it was that Aaron Judge did not get his 61st home run tonight.

Offensively, Rodolfo Castro continued his hot streak scoring the only two runs on his two hits as Ke’Bryan Hayes was able to drive him in both times.
