Pirates Postgame: Johan Oviedo Dominant In 7 As Pirates Shutout Cubs

Published

on

We’ve had much discussion if Johan Oviedo should be a starter or reliever, but today he continues his trial of showing his worth as a starter. In quite possibly the best start by a Pirate all year Johan was efficient and effective throwing 71% strikes and just 82 pitches to get through seven.

What may have been more surprising was the bullpen was not only able to secure the lead but shutout the opponent as well. Zach Thompson only needed to pitch 2 innings to finish it off, but he was able to do so while also striking out four Cubs.

The offense showed up again today lead by Ji-hwan Bae and Jack Suwnski. Just in his first two games Bae has showed us all his tools. His 2-run double fueled by his speed opened the scoring in the 5th and then Jack Suwinski’s 3-run shot gave the Bucco’s the cushion needed to never look back.
