Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Pittsburgh Pirates made a roster move, optioning right-hander Luis Ortiz to Triple-A Indianapolis.
To take his spot on the 26-man roster, reliever Yohan Ramirez was recalled from Indianapolis.
It has been a rough go of late for Ortiz, who has struggled in his last two appearances after throwing eight innings of one-run ball against the Marlins in Miami.
On Tuesday against the Dodgers, Ortiz allowed six runs in 3.1 innings and served up three home runs.
On the year, Ortiz is 2-3 with a 4.86 ERA/6.20 FIP across 11 appearances, 10 of which were starts.
Ramirez rejoins the Pirates after being optioned on June 20. In 24.0 innings across 19 appearances out of the Pirates’ bullpen this season, Ramirez owns a 3.00 ERA.
