Pirates Option Beau Sulser and Select Cam Alldred; Roberto Pérez Transferred to 60-Day IL
The Pirates announced that they have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Cam Alldred from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned right-hander Beau Sulser. To make room for Alldred on the 40-man roster, Roberto Pérez was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Alldred has made eight appearances (one start) covering 17.1 innings with Indianapolis this season. He’s allowed three runs on 12 hits, three walks had has recorded 15 strikeouts. The left-hander has excelled at inducing groundballs this season with a 60.9% groundball rate.
The 25-year-old was a 24th-round pick by the Pirates in the 2018 MLB Draft out of the University of Cincinnati. For his minor league career, he’s posted a 2.75 ERA and six saves with 169 strikeouts in 173.2 innings over four seasons.
Sulser pitched 9.1 innings over five appearances with the Pirates. He posted a 3.72 ERA with 10 strikeouts out of the Bucs bullpen. In Tuesday’s loss to the Dodgers, the right-hander was tagged with four earned runs over four innings.
Pérez’s left hamstring strain has been said to be more on the serious side of things, and will now be sidelined until at least July. Pérez was off to a strong start with the Pirates in his first year with the club, posting a 106 OPS+ and two defensive runs saved behind the plate.
