Pirates Injury Updates: Brubaker, Stallings and More
Pirates’ Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk spoke to the media to provide injury updates on some of the players currently on the injured list.
JT Brubaker is currently on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation and is back throwing on flat ground, but he is not expected to return this season. If his season is indeed over, Brubaker will finish the 2021 campaign with a 5-13 record and a 5.36 ERA.
Jacob Stallings is back playing catch for the first time since being placed on the 7-day concussion IL. Stallings’ concussion symptoms have subsided, but it is unclear if he will play again this season. Taylor Davis was brought up from Triple-A Indianapolis to handle the catching duties with Michael Perez is Stallings’ absence, and is in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Reds.
David Bednar is set to throw a live BP and the Pirates are planning to have him pitch again before the season comes to a close. Bednar was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sept. 14 with a right oblique strain. Bednar has put together an outstanding season for the Pirates, posting a 2.18 ERA in 57.2 innings pitched.
Finally, even though Bryse Wilson was transferred to the 60-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, the timetable for the injury is about 2-4 weeks, so Wilson should resume baseball activities fairly soon after the season ends.
