Pirates Designate Eric Hanhold For Assignment

Published

on

The Pirates announced on Friday that they have designated right-handed pitcher Eric Hanhold for assignment. A corresponding move was needed after the Pirates claimed right-hander Adonis Medina off waivers from the Phillies earlier in the week.

The Bucs claimed Hanhold off waivers from the Orioles back on Nov. 3, and now will see if they can keep him in the organization, even after removing him from the 40-man. The 28-year-old was a sixth-round pick of the Mets back in 2015, and was traded to the Mets in the deal that sent former Pirate Neil Walker from Flushing Queens to Milwaukee.

Hanhold has made 13 appearances in his big league career, posting a 7.11 ERA/5.38 FIP in 12.2 innings. He has spent parts of six seasons in the minor leagues, with a career 4.69 ERA in 168 appearances (31 starts). The Pirates 40-man roster now sits at 40.
