The Pirates have added a player to their 40-man roster that will compete for a spot in their bullpen.

On Sunday, the Pirates announced that they have claimed 26-year-old left-handed pitcher Aaron Fletcher off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

In 2021, Fletcher made four appearances with Seattle but spent the majority of the season in AAA. In 39 appearances with Tacoma, Fletcher went 4-0 with two saves and a 3.47 ERA.

Fletcher has made a nice progression through the minor leagues having just been drafted in the 2018 MLB Draft. In his first minor league season in 2019, Fletcher went 5-4 with a 2.09 ERA, as he moved through 3 minor league levels. Fletcher’s combined minor league stat line reads: 11-5, 3 saves, 2.69 ERA and 163 strikeouts in 153 innings.

Entering Spring Training, leading left-handed pitching options for the Pirates 2022 bullpen include Sam Howard, Anthony Banda and Dillon Peters.
