Pirates Announce Latest Roster Moves Ahead of Thursday’s Opener

The Pirates announced their latest round of roster moves as the team has to trim their roster to 28 players for Thursday’s Opening Day in St. Louis. The club announced that outfielder Anthony Alford, lefty Sam Howard and right-handers Luis Oviedo and Max Kranick will begin the season on the 10-day injured list.

Additionally, outfielder Greg Allen, who was having a strong spring training, will begin the season on the injured list, though it is unclear if that will be the 10-day or 60-day as no official announcement was made.

The Pirates also reassigned catchers Taylor Davis, Michael Perez and Jamie Ritchie, outfielder Bligh Madris, infielder/outfielder Hunter Owen and right-hander Jerad Eickhoff to minor league camp.

With the trio of catchers all reassigned to minor league camp, it appears the Pirates will be bringing in an external backup to Roberto Perez.
