The Scottsdale Scorpions were 12-3 winners over the Peoria Javelinas on Wednesday. A quartet of Pittsburgh Pirates’ prospects helped bump the Scorpions over .500 to a record of 15-14 with the win.

At the plate, outfielder Sammy Siani reached base four times — once on a double and three times on a free pass. Siani, who has had an excellent showing in the AFL, forced home a run with a bases-loaded walk and scored twice.

The 37th overall pick of the Pirates back in 2019 is second on the team with a .387 batting average and ranks third with an outstanding 1.031 OPS. He’s driven in 18 runs in 21 games for the Scorpions.

Fellow Pirates’ prospect Kervin Pichardo finished 1 for 4 with a triple, a walk and two runs scored. Pichardo is hitting .275 with an .893 OPS.

And finally, catcher Geovanny Planchart failed to record a hit but he still had a productive game. Planchart drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and drew a pair of walks. Despite going 0 for 2, he’s hitting .323 with a .998 OPS this fall.

On the mound, right-hander Khristian Curtis recorded his second hold with three-solid innings out of the bullpen. Curtis allowed one run on two hits — one of which was a home run — one walk and three strikeouts.

Scottsdale will conclude the regular season slate on Thursday evening against the Glendale Desert Dogs.
