Pirates AFL Updates: Siani Stars, Yean Knocked Around

Four Pirates prospects took part in the Scottsdale Scorpions’ 10-9 Arizona Fall League loss to the Surprise Saguaros on Friday, October 25. First and foremost was 2019 compensatory pick Sammy Siani, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored, boosting his batting average to .410 across 10 games for Scottsdale this season.
The 5-foot-10, 195 pound outfielder’s contributions at the plate helped Scottsdale build a 9-3 lead… but they unraveled from there, allowing six unanswered runs and falling to 5-10 on the season.
2022 first round pick Termarr Johnson made his first appearance since leaving Tuesday’s game early. Betting leadoff, he went 1-for-5 with an RBI single.
Pitching prospects Valentin Linarez and Eddy Yean also appeared in the loss. Linarez pitched two scoreless innings in relief, working around an error from his third baseman that saw the Saguaros’ leadoff man reach second with no outs. He struck out two batters, allowing a walk and a single. Yean entered with runners at the corners and two outs in the fifth as Scottsdale clung to a 9-8 lead. He allowed a single to right-center that Siani deflected, permitting the tying run to cross. Yean then surrendered the winning run in the sixth, allowing three singles and a walk but limiting the damage to one run with the help of a nice relay to the plate. Nevertheless, he got tagged with one earned run, a blown save and the loss in 1.1 innings of work.
Scottsdale will be back in action at 3:30pm EDT Saturday, facing Surprise on the road again.
