Pirates AFL Updates: Everyone Contributes; Bidois Racks up Strikeouts

The Scottsdale Scorpions erupted for 10 runs in a win over the Mesa Solar Sox on Wednesday night, and all four Pittsburgh Pirates’ prospects in the lineup reached base and scored at least one time.
The quartet combined for eight walks — Termarr Johnson and Geovanny Planchart each had three and Sammy Siani and Kervin Pichardo each reached once on a free pass.
Of all four prospects in the lineup on Wednesday, Siani had the biggest night. The Pirates’ outfield prospect finished with a pair of hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Planchart singled in addition to drawing three walks and scored a run.
Sitting atop the Scorpions’ lineup, Johnson came around to score twice and stole his third base of the season. Pichardo finished 0 for 4 but also scored a run in the win.
All four hitting prospects from the Pirates in Wednesday’s game have solid numbers so far in the AFL. Planchart is batting .364 with a 1.182 OPS, Siani upped his batting average to .402 and his OPS to .983. Johnson has a .919 OPS and Pichardo’s reads .798.
Additionally, right-hander Brandan Bidois recorded strikeouts for four of the five outs he recorded. He didn’t allow a run, gave up one hit and walked one while recording his second hold.
The Scorpions (7-12) have a quick turnaround and will play the Glendale Desert Dogs (11-8) at 4:30 ET on Thursday.
