Pirates Adjusted 2025 Win Total is 67.5: Bet the Over

Before the season, FanDuel Sportsbook’s MLB odds had the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2025 win total set at 76.5. After a sky-is-falling start to the season, that number has sunk significantly.
The Buccos’ current 2025 win total is 67.5.
Emotions are running hot among the fanbase. A lackluster on-field product combined with several PR disasters transformed the fun night out at the ballpark apathy into white-hot rage.
Don’t let emotions get the better of you. The Bucs winning over 67.5 games this year is a marvelous bet.
Every Team Goes on a Hot Streak
Losing 100 games is a challenge in the MLB. One could argue that MLB has achieved significant parity, but if it has, it’s only because MLB has a bunch of bad-to-average teams and only a few contenders.
As such, the Pirates will play their share of fellow bad teams.
The 2023 Pirates team that finished 76-86 put together a seven-game winning streak. Last year’s Chicago White Sox, a team that finished 41-121, managed a four-game and a three-game winning streak.
At some point this season, and it will likely come in late June/early July when the Pirates play the St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, and Kansas City Royals, the Bucs will string together a paper chain of wins.
The Bats Can’t Stay This Cold Forever
Or can they?
The Bucs have the second-worst team batting average in MLB, hitting for a collective 0.204%. Last year, the Pirates finished with a 0.234 average—not much better.
What’s worse is Bucco skipper Derek Shelton’s insistence on giving one of the team’s few professional hitters, Andrew McCutchen, rest when the bats aren’t making contact.
There’s no indication that the bats will turn long-term, but the 2024 Chicago White Sox finished last in the MLB with a 0.224 team batting average. The Pirates should string enough hits together at some point this season to win some games.
I Think a Change Will Do You Good
The 2025 Pirates season has been a cavalcade of PR blunders. Even a show of goodwill from owner Bob Nutting on Paul Skenes bobblehead night wasn’t enough to satiate the fans’ dissatisfaction.
Despite the pledge of a bobblehead in every hand for those in attendance last Saturday, fans still called for Nutting to sell the team in unison.
If a bobblehead won’t placate the fans, what will? Maybe a managerial change?
Derek Shelton still has a job despite a miserable 301-430 record. Previous manager and fan favorite Clint Hurdle was fired for less, and Shelty’s dismissal would be a small show of accountability within the organization.
And yeah, I know that the Pirates’ lineup is excrement. And I know a managerial swap won’t turn this team into the ‘86 Mets. But something has to give, and soon.
Bet the 2025 Pittsburgh Pirates Win Total Over
The Pittsburgh Pirates are a team without hope. The fans are angry. So is their ace.
While the Bucs likely won’t summon a magical pennant run, a hot streak or two will come. I’m betting the Pirates win 68 games in 2025.
