Pirates Activate Jose Hernandez From Injured List

Rookie left-handed reliever Jose Hernandez was activated from the 15-day injured list prior to Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.

Hernandez had been out since June 18 with a strained right calf. He has been a pleasant surprise for the Pirates this year, going 0-1 with a 2.63 ERA in 26 games after being selected from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Rule 5 Draft last December.

In five games on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis, the 25-year-old allowed two runs and two hits in 5.1 innings with six strikeouts and three walks.

Hernandez takes the 26-man roster spot of reliever Yohan Ramizez, who was optioned to Indianapolis on Thursday’s off day.
