Pirates Activate Andrew McCutchen, Option Rodolfo Castro

PITTSBURGH – Andrew McCutchen was activated from the 10-day injured list on Sunday by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 36-year-old outfielder had been sidelined by right elbow inflammation since July 6. He is hitting .268/.383/.425 with 11 home runs and nine stolen bases in 74 gamers this season after returning to the Pirates five years after they traded him.

McCutchen is in the lineup batting third and serving as the designated hiiter for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants at PNC Park.

Infielder Rodolfo Castro was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. In 78 games, he hit .228/.317/.355 with six homers.

Right-hander Quinn Priester was added to the taxi squad in anticipation of making his major-league debut Monday night against the Cleveland Guardians at PNC Park. The Pirates’ first-round pick in 2019, Priester was 7-3 with a 4.31 ERA in 18 starts for Triple-A Indianapolis.
