PBN Around the Horn: Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Published

on

Welcome to the PBN Around the Horn. Here you’ll find news and notes from across Major League Baseball, your Pittsburgh Pirates, and around the Sports Now network.

Who is truly losing during the MLB lockout? The fans? The owners? The major league players? Maybe the minor league players? In reality, they all are losing in this battle, but the group losing the most are the minor leaguers placed on the 40-man roster.

This unfortunate group of men who are supposed to be celebrating a lifetime accomplishment are now stuck fending for themselves. They can’t participate in minor league activities and even communicate or use the parent club’s facilities.

While mom and dad fight, the kids are left to take care of the house, and baby, the house is falling apart. Despite the bad analogy, guys like Jack Suwinski, Canaan Smith-Njigba, Liover Peguero, and Travis Swaggerty are now stuck twiddling their fingers while potentially losing two out of the last three years of development.

Do the league and the players association still have time to get things together and rectify this situation? Sure, but good lord, there is little to no hope for a deal to get done anytime soon.
