PBN Around the Horn: Manfred vs. Clark, Rage in the Cage
Welcome to the PBN Around the Horn. Here you’ll find news and notes from across Major League Baseball, your Pittsburgh Pirates, and around the Sports Now network.
On Wednesday, several reporters said both MLB and the MLBPA are set to meet Thursday. The MLBPA is expected to give MLB a counter-proposal, and fans and reporters alike are left sitting here scratching their heads and wondering a few things.
Are both MLB and the MLBPA willing to miss games as some sort of leverage over the other? Why are MLB and the MLBPA meeting just once a week? Did I remember to put my clothes in the dryer? The last one is, of course, a joke (or maybe it isn’t), but you get the point. If both sides wanted to get this done and not miss out on games like good ole Rob Manfred said, why aren’t they meeting every day?!
Maybe the logistics aren’t all there, but there has to be a better way to go about this. The last Around the Horn mentioned recent 40-man roster additions are the biggest losers, but by dragging this lockout on, fans begin to lose patience, interest, and the need to spend money on your product.
Sure, you have your diehard fans, but the longer the lockout drags on, you lose the chance to reach out to a larger demographic.
SIDE NOTE: Wouldn’t you love to see Rob Manfred and Tony Clark in a cage match, and the loser has to give in to the winners’ demands?! Vince McMahon, MAKE IT HAPPEN!
