MLB Offseason Round-Up: Pirates Interested in Multiple Free Agent Starters

This is one in a series of daily articles highlighting the latest news and notes from the MLB offseason.
The Winter Meetings is in the rearview mirror, but there is still plenty to be sorted out over the next couple months of the MLB offseason.
The Pittsburgh Pirates made one move in Nashville earlier in the week, acquiring left-handed starting pitcher Marco Gonzales from the Atlanta Braves. While the deal was a fine start, it was simply that. The Pirates are seeking additional additions to their rotation.
According to our own John Perrotto, the Pirates are “said to have interest” in free agents Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Lucas Giolito, Mike Clevinger, Dakota Hudson and Brad Keller. This is in addition to their already-rumored interest in right-hander Jack Flaherty.
Keep an eye on the Pirates in the coming days, weeks and months as they stay active in the starting pitching market.
BADER DRAWING INTEREST FROM THE WEST
Thanks to his speed and defense, Harrison Bader presents an intriguing center field option on the free agent market despite poor offensive numbers the past two seasons.
The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are both interested in the 29-year-old, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. Morosi adds both clubs are also interested in Korean outfielder Jung Hoo Lee.
Both teams have needs in center field, but the Padres in particular have a desperate need in the outfield after dealing outfielders Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to the New York Yankees.
OTHER NEWS AND NOTES
- The New York Mets are in agreement with relief pitcher Jorge López on a one-year, $2 million deal, per Carlos Rosa.
