MLB Draft Prospect Profile: Ethan Holliday to Follow His Brother’s Lead?

This is one in a series of breakdowns of the top prospects available in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Ethan Holliday is one of the players squarely in the mix for the Washington Nationals to take with the first pick in Sunday’s draft. If it happened, it wouldn’t be the first time a Holliday went No. 1.
Three years ago, the Baltimore Orioles selected Jackson Holliday with the top pick. The Holliday brothers are the sons of seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday, so baseball is in their DNA.
Back to the man of the hour. Ethan is considered by many to be the very best prospect available in this year’s draft but has a different profile than his brother.
The 18-year-old from Stillwater High School in Oklahoma possesses a powerful swing and could one day be a 30-plus homer player in the big leagues. Holliday is already listed as 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds and will add to his frame as he develops.
A shortstop by nature, Holliday may end up at third base as a professional, but it’s the power that teams will focus on.
Holliday was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Oklahoma after a fantastic senior season. The left-handed hitter slashed .619/.737/1.309 with a whopping 16 home runs and 51 RBI in only 32 games.
If Holliday doesn’t go first overall to the Nationals, it’s hard to see him making it past the Colorado Rockies at No. 4.
The upside and the talent is just too good to pass up, and it’s why Holliday will hear his name early on draft day and become one of the game’s top prospect immediately.
