PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates had to deal with a couple injuries to a pair of players  on Friday night.

Andrew McCutchen was scratched from the lineup with a left ankle sprain while Ji Hwan Bae exited the game after an awkward looking groundout in the bottom of the eighth.

McCutchen tweaked his ankle during pregame warmups. While camping under a fly ball, McCutchen planted his feet and rolled his ankle.

“Honestly, let’s just see how I feel tomorrow,” McCutchen said. “It swelled up and localized to one area… I could easily wake up tomorrow and be like I feel fine, I feel ok. Or I could wake up tomorrow and be like, I think I need another day. It’s kind of where we are. Just see where we are and treat the heck out of it tonight.”

Bae’s injury came after “his ankle grabbed on him as he hit the ground ball,” according to manager Derek Shelton. Bae is currently being evaluated by the Pirates’ medical staff and no further update was provided beyond that.

More information on both players should be available on Saturday.
