How We Got There

The Brewers (43-44) didn’t score against Braxton Ashcraft, who threw 3.0-scoreless innings in his first big-league start, but struck for two runs against Hunter Stratton in the bottom of the fourth.
Gonzales again came through in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to put the Pirates ahead 4-2, but Christian Yelich hit a game-tying two-run home run on a 3-0 pitch from Chase Shugart (4-3) in the bottom of the inning.
The Pirates immediately reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning when Isiah Kiner-Falefa tripled home Pham.
The Brewers had the potential tying run on second base in the bottom of the eighth but Isaac Mattson struck out Isaac Collins to keep the Pirates’ lead intact. David Bednar recorded his 11th save of the season.
