Pittsburgh Pirates-Endy Rodriguez

Top catching prospect Endy Rodriguez was one of five players optioned by the Pittsburgh Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Also sent to Indianapolis were right-handers Mike Burrows and Colin Selby, infielder Jared Triolo and outfielder Ryan Vilade.

Baseball America ranks Rodriguez, who went 5 for 15 (.333) with three doubles in Grapefruit League play, as the Pirates’ top overall prospect. Burrows is No. 9 on the publication’s list and Triolo is No. 15.

The Pirates also reassigned three pitchers to minor-league camp – left-hander Caleb Smith and righties Wei-Chieh Huang and Nate Webb.

The Pirates now have 50 players remaining in their spring training camp.
