WATCH: Derek Shelton Named to All-Star Coaching With Help From Cutch

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates will have at least two representatives in the 2023 MLB All-Star Game this season.

Though player selections have yet to be announced, Pirates’ manager Derek Shelton will be a part of the National League coaching staff.

Since the Philadelphia Phillies were the National League pennant winners a year ago, Phillies manager Rob Thompson will be the manager of the N.L. All-Star team for this yea’s Midsummer Classic.

Thompson and Shelton coached together in the Yankees’ minor league system in the earlier part of their careers.

Shelton is in his fourth season at the helm in Pittsburgh. The 52-year-old has compiled a 179-284 record with the Pirates.

The Pirates’ manager was surprised by Andrew McCutchen and other Pirates’ players in the clubhouse prior to Thursday’s game.

The 2023 All-Star game will be played at T-Mobile Park on Tuesday, July 11,
