PITTSBURGH — For the first time since his season debut, Mitch Keller was the winning pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 9-1 rout of the New York Mets at PNC Park on Friday night.

How We Got There

After going down in order in the top of the first, the Pirates (33-50) struck for four runs off Mets starter David Peterson (5-4) in the second.

Jared Triolo opened the big inning with an RBI single, which was followed by Alexander Canario’s RBI double to right. Isiah Kiner-Falefa put the Pirates ahead 3-0 with an RBI knock to left, and Tommy Pham bounced into a fielder’s choice to plate the fourth run.

Juan Soto hit a solo homer to get the Mets (48-35) on the board in the fourth, but the Pirates got the run back on Ke’Bryan Hayes’ RBI double off the Clemente Wall in the fifth.

Bryan Reynolds connected on his first home run since June 6, a three-run blast off reliever Blade Tidwell, to put the Pirates ahead 8-1.

Pham tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single up the middle.

Keller (2-10), who had gone 15 starts and 10 losses in a row between wins, earned his second of the season after holding the Mets to one run in 5.1 innings.

Key Moment

Keller exited the game in with two on and one out in the sixth with the Pirates ahead 5-1. Isaac Mattson ensured the Pirates’ maintained some breathing room by getting both outs and keeping the Mets off the scoreboard.

Star of the Game

A lot of good performances out of the lineup, but how could it be anyone other than Mitch Keller?
