PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Pirates have come to an agreement on a contract with Paul Skenes, the first overall pick in this year’s amateur draft, according to industry sources.

Skenes received a record-breaking $9.2 million signing bonus, although the number still came in $521,000 under the given slot value.

The deal will be officially announced during a 3:30 p.m. press conference at PNC Park.

Skenes helped lead LSU to the national championship and was the Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series. The right-handed pitcher had a 12-2 record, 1.69 ERA and 0.75 WHIP in 19 starts with 209 strikeouts in 122.2 innings.
