BREAKING: Pirates Are Expected to Call Up RHP Roansy Contreras

Published

According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, the Pittsburgh Pirates will recall right-handed pitcher Roansy Contreras. No corresponding move has been announced as of yet, but when the news is made, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Contreras was sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis on April 21st. Pirates manager Derek Shelton and general manager Ben Cherington mentioned that Contreras was sent down to Triple-A to be stretched out as a starter.

Contreras, in his past couple of starts, has surpassed the 80 pitch mark, and management must’ve seen enough to make the call to send the 22-year-old back to Pittsburgh just in time for the Colorado Rockies series starting Monday.

Contreras, during his stint in Triple-A, went 0-1, 2.66 ERA, 13 hits, 11 walks, and 24 strikeouts.

The Pirates do not have a starter listed for Tuesday, so maybe Contreras will get his first start in the Majors of 2022.
