Pirates Ben Cherington Draft

On Ben Cherington’s regular Sunday show he discussed Michael Chavis, JT Brubaker, and Steven Brault and their progress. In terms of the pitchers (Brubaker and Brault), Cherington made it clear that he is unsure if they will pitch again this season. “Brubaker is making good progress,” Cherington said on Sunday. Cherington mentioned that Brault’s left lat injury “isn’t as serious as once thought.”

Brubaker has been on the IL since September 5th with right shoulder inflammation and carries a 5.15 ERA along with an xFIP of 4.01. Brault has been on the IL since September 11th with a recurring left lat strain and has an ERA of 5.86 with a slightly lower xFIP of 5.38.

Chavis had the best prognosis out of the other two mentioned. Cherington mentioned that he is hopeful that the 26-year-old will get some game action before the season is over. The best sign for Chavis is that he has begun throwing again. Chavis has been on the IL since August 31st.
