Anthony Alford Elects Free Agency

Published

on

According to John Dreker of Pirates Prospects, Anthony Alford has elected free agency. The Pirates designated Alford for assignment and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Alford appeared in just two games with the Bucs in 2022, picking up a hit in four at-bats. In parts of three seasons in Pittsburgh, the 27-year-old hit .235 with a .732 OPS and six home runs in 56 games. The big problem for Alford were strikeouts, as nearly 40% of his plate appearances resulted in a punch out.

The Pirates originally claimed Alford off waivers from Toronto in 2020, the team that selected him in the third round of the 2012 MLB draft.

He is now free to sign with any team.
