It was just last week when Hall of Fame pitcher and Boston Red Sox broadcaster Dennis Eckersley slammed the Pittsburgh Pirates when the Bucs hosted Boston for a three-game series at PNC Park.

Fast forward a week and a half later, and another announcer took a shot at the current state of the Pirates.

Three-time MLB All-Star and current Philadelphia Phillies color man John Kruk made some unflattering comments about the Pirates in Friday’s opener of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

“It looks like an exhibition between a big league team and a college team,” Kruk said as the Phillies took a 6-0 lead in the second inning.

Second baseman Rodolfo Castro committed an error and another defensive miscue in the first inning, followed by an error charged to shortstop Kevin Newman in the second.

The misplays led to multiple Phillies runs and helped Philadelphia jump out to a big early lead.

The Pirates are currently riding a five-game losing streak and have dropped 11 of 13 contests as they sit in the cellar of the National League Central with a 47-77 record.
