Pittsburgh Pirates, Tucupita Marcano

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that they have called up INF/OF, Tucupita Marcano from Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have placed Ji-Man Choi on the 10-day IL with a strained left Achilles retro to April 14.

Choi was pulled from Friday’s game last minute with what was being described as an ankle issue, but now we see it’s an Achilles.

Choi has struggled so far in the early season with a slash line of .125/.125/.344. Choi has struck out in 46.9% of his at-bats so far and has yet to draw a walk.

Marcano has had a hot start to the season in Triple-A with a slash line of .422/.458/.689.

From all accounts, Marcano has been hitting the ball harder so far in Triple-A, which is big news for him. If there was one thing Marcano struggled with last season, it was hitting the ball with any authority.
