Pittsburgh Pirates- Mitch Keller

Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Pittsburgh Pirates (57-97) continue their homestand against the Cincinnati Reds (67-87). First pitch is expected to be around 6:35 p.m. at PNC Park in the second game of the three-game series.

Pirates rookies Jack Suwinski and Oneil Cruz fueled the Pirates to their 8-3 victory over the Reds on Monday night. Cruz had four hits and Suwinski doubled twice. It was an all-around great effort from the young Bucs.

The game will be aired on AT&T Sportsnet PIT and can be heard on 93.7 The Fan

Weather

Make sure to bring your jackets to the North Shore as temperatures will dip into the low 50s. A slight 7 mph wind blowing southwest is expected.

Starters

The Pirates will send out Mitch Keller (5-12, 3.99 ERA).

Despite Keller taking the loss in his last start on last Thursday against the Chicago Cubs, he performed well. Keller pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs. Keller now has an ERA that sits in the threes for the first time all season.

The Reds will send out the rookie, Hunter Greene (4-13, 4.91 ERA).

Since coming off the injured list Sept. 17 with a right shoulder strain, Greene has pitched in three games. During that span, the rookie has pitched a combined 17 innings while giving up seven hits, two earned runs, three walks, and 27 strikeouts. He pitched 7.1 no-hit innings against the Pirates on May 15 at PNC Park but lost 1-0.

Betting Odds

There is no clear favorite on the moneyline as the betting opens up. The Pirates sit at -110, and the Reds are -106. Pittsburgh’s runline of +1.5 can be had at -202 odds, whereas Cincinnati’s -1.5 sits at +166 odds. The O/U opens up at 7 runs.

Who’s Hot/Who’s Not

Who’s Hot: Suwinski continued his dominance at PNC Park with a 2-for-4 performance and two RBIs. His double in the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and wound being the game-winning hit.

Who’s Not: Catcher Jose Godoy did not have a good welcome-back game. Godoy went hitless in four at-bats and struck out twice at the plate after being activated from the taxi squad.

Tidbits

  • Oneil Cruz recorded the first four-hit game of his major league career. Cruz is the second Pirates’ leadoff hitter to record four or more hits in a game this season. The other was Daniel Vogelbach against the Washington Nationals on April 14.
  • Suwinski’s crazy home/road splits continues to baffle. After his 2-for-4 performance for the Pirates, he is now batting .282/.359/.613 at home. On the road, Suwinski is batting .098/.189/.175.
  • After going 2 for 4, Kevin Newman extended his hitting streak to nine games.
