Pirates Prospect Watch: Pirates’ Top Two Catching Prospects Lead Altoona To Win
With the conclusion of both the Greensboro Grasshoppers and Bradenton Marauders seasons, there are only two affiliates to report on from Tuesday night.
One of those affiliates is the Altoona Curve, where Henry Davis homered for the first time for Altoona since June. Endy Rodriguez also enjoyed yet another big night at the plate.
Though he’s not a prospect, Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar began a rehab assignment with Indianapolis. He allowed one run in one inning and struck out two.
Fellow Pirates reliever Dillon Peters made his second rehab appearance with Altoona and allowed a pair of runs in an inning of work.
Here are the Pirates’ top performers from their top two affiliates from Tuesday.
Indianapolis Indians (70-65)
RF Brendt Citta
- Game:Â 1 for 4 with a double
- Season:Â .250/.342/.417, seven doubles, three home runs, 16 RBIs, 29 games
LF Ji-hwan Bae
- Game:Â 1 for 4 with a steal
- Season:Â .295/.365/.438, 20 doubles, six triples, eight home runs, 52 RBIs, 27 steals, 101 games
It was a rough night for the Indians, who fell 9-1 to the Toledo Mud Hens. Bae’s 27th steal of the season gives him the 10th-most in the International League this season.
Citta has performed pretty well for Indianapolis this season, and he recorded the only extra-base hit of the night for Indianapolis.
Altoona Curve (68-64)
DH Henry Davis
- Game:Â 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs, two runs and a hit by pitch
- Season:Â .208/.328/.366, seven doubles, three home runs, 16 RBIs, 27 games
C Endy Rodriguez
- Game:Â 3 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs
- Season:Â .365/.446/.721, 13 doubles, eight home runs, 30 RBIs, 27 games
Davis’ big night at the plate, which yes, included yet another hit by pitch, helped the Curve take down the Reading Fightin Phils 9-4.
At this rate, what more can be said about Rodriguez who continued his tear at the plate with Altoona. Defensively, Rodriguez threw out an attempting base stealer.
Outfielder Connor Scott doubled for one of his two hits in the games and drove in three runs. Shortstop Liover Peguero singled, walked, drove in a run, scored once and swiped a pair of bases.
