Pirates Select Osvaldo Bido For Major League Debut vs. Cubs

The Pittsburgh Pirates have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Osvaldo Bido from Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 27-year-old Bido will start for the Pirates against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night, marking his major league debut. He will wear No. 70.

This season with Indianapolis, Bido has posted a 3-4 record with a 4.55 ERA across 12 appearances (10 starts. The right-hander has struck out 56 and walked 26 in 55.1 innings.

Originally signed out of the Dominican Republic as an amateur free agent in 2017, Bido is 27-42 with a 4.40 ERA across 121 appearances (108 starts) in his minor league career.

In a corresponding move, outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba was optioned back to Triple-A. The outfielder appeared in one game in his latest stint with the Pirates after being recalled last week.
