Pirates Prospects, Liover Peguero

After a slow start to his 2023 season with Double-A Altoona, Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Liover Peguero is starting to turn things around at the plate.

After collecting two more hits on Wednesday, Peguero now has a six-game hitting streak and has posted three multi-hit performances over that span.

The 22-year-old Peguero has seen his stock fall of late, but he still remains one of the higher-upside prospects in the Pirates’ system.

In addition to Peguero, here are the Pirates’ prospects who stood out on Wednesday.

Indianapolis (19-21)

1B Aaron Shackelford

  • Game stats: 2 for 3, one home run, two RBIs, one run, one walk
  • Season stats: .277/.415/.489, six doubles, one triple, four home runs, 11 RBIs, four steals, 30 games

RHP Osvaldo Bido

  • Game stats: 6.0 innings, five hits, three runs (one earned), four walks, six strikeouts
  • Season stats: 2-3, 3.31 ERA, 13er/35.1ip, 27 hits, 15 walks, 41 strikeouts, eight appearances/six starts

While Shackelford and Bido both had strong games for Indianapolis, the Indians were defeated 5-4 by the Iowa Cubs.

Pirates prospect Cody Bolton tossed a scoreless ninth inning out of the bullpen.

Altoona (16-17)

2B Liover Peguero

  • Game stats: 2 for 5, one double, two RBIs, two runs, one walk, one steal
  • Season stats: .254/.336/.393, 11 doubles, two home runs, 13 RBIs, 10 steals, 30 games

  • Season stats: 1-0, 2.28 ERA, 7er/27.2ip, 21 hits, 11 walks, 24 strikeouts, six appearances/six starts

With help from Peguero and others, Sullivan was able to earn his first win of the season as Altoona crushed the Bowie Baysox 11-2.

Henry Davis had two hits, drove in two runs, scored twice and drew a pair of walks. Pirates prospects Matt Gorski and Lolo Sanchez were among the others who recorded multi-hit games.

Greensboro (20-15)

RHP Po-Yu Chen

  • Game stats: 0-3, 5.74 ERA, 20er/31.1ip, 35 hits, nine walks, 30 strikeouts, seven appearances/seven starts

3B Jackson Glenn

  • Game stats: 2 for 5, one double, one RBI
  • Season stats: .300/.390/.533, six doubles, five home runs, 22 RBIs, two steals, 25 games

Chen pitched well enough to get his first win on the year, but Greensboro fell 5-3 to the Asheville Tourists. Glenn paced the offense with two hits and an RBI.

In addition to Glenn, Pirates prospects Maikol Escotto and Eli Wilson had two hits, Tsung-Che Cheng went 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a steal.

  • Game stats: 2 for 3, one RBI, one run, two walks, one steal
  • Season stats: .264/.439/.318, four doubles, one triple, 13 RBIs, six steals, 33 games

Cimillo and Castillo’s contributions weren’t quite enough for Bradenton in their 5-4 loss to the Clearwater Threshers.

Pirates prospect Termarr Johnson doubled and drove in a pair for the Marauders.
