MLB Announces That MiLB Will Go Back to Their Historic League Names

MiLB on Wednesday afternoon announced that they are going back to their roots. Gone are the new league names, and in their place are the historically accurate league names. MLB Senior Vice President of Minor League Operations and Development Peter Woodfork commented on this very news. 

“Major League Basebal is pleased to restore the historic names for each of the Minor Leagues that our fans are familiar with,” said Woodfork. “We are excited for what the future holds for each of the leagues and communities.”

International League (Triple-A): Originally Founded in 1884

Notable Pirates: Roberto Clemente

Notable Teams: Indianapolis Indians (Pirates Triple-A Club)

 

Pacific Coast League (Triple-A): Originally Founded in 1903

Notable Pirates: N/A

Notable Teams: N/A

 

Eastern League (Double-A): Originally Founded in 1923

Notable Pirates: Bill Mazeroski

Notable Teams: Altoona Curve (Pirates Double-A Club)

 

Southern League (Double-A): Originally Founded in 1885
