Pittsburgh Pirates-Nick Gonzales

After the Pittsburgh Pirates made him the seventh overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, Nick Gonzales was considered to be arguably the team’s top prospect.

The infielder from New Mexico State University put up some video-game-like numbers in his college career in the Western Athletic Conference.

In his three years of college ball, Gonzales, a former walk-on, slashed .399/.502/747 with 37 home runs and 152 RBIs. He also drew more walks (89) than he had strikeouts (79).

Since there was no minor league season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gonzales didn’t get his first taste of professional baseball until 2021.
