PIRATES TRADE: Adam Frazier to Royals for Power Hitting Minor League Infielder

The Pittsburgh Pirates are trading utilityman Adam Frazier to the Kansas City Royals for minor league infielder Cam Devanney, a source told Pittsburgh Baseball Now. Devanney has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Frazier, who spent the 2024 season with the Royals, signed as a free agent with the Pirates in the offseason. In 78 games in his return to Pittsburgh this season, the 33-year-old slashed .255/.318/.336 with 10 doubles, three home runs, 21 RBI and seven stolen bases.
The bulk of Frazier’s defensive work this year has come at second base, where he filled in for Nick Gonzales during a nearly two-month stint on the injured list at the beginning of the season. Frazier has also manned both corner outfield spots this season.
Devanney had his contract selected from Triple-A Omaha on July 8 but has yet to appear in a game, which would be his first in the big leagues.
In 69 games at Triple-A this season, Devanney has compiled a .272/.366/.565 batting line with 14 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs and 55 RBI.
The 28-year-old was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 15th round of the 2019 draft out of Elon University and was traded to the Royals in 2023. In six minor leagues seasons, the right-handed hitter carries a .253/.341/.448 batting line with 122 doubles, 10 triples, 83 home runs, 311 RBI and 41 steals across 584 games.
Devanney has primarily worked the left side of the infield in his professional career, with 383 games at shortstop and 100 games at third base. He’s also played games at first and second base and in left field.
Frazier is one of several rental players expected to be traded by the Pirates leading up to the trade deadline. Left-handers Andrew Heaney and Caleb Ferguson, infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa and outfielder Tommy Pham are all players on expiring contracts with high chances of getting dealt.
The Pirates have also been getting interest on several players controlled beyond 2025, including starter Mitch Keller and relievers David Bednar and Dennis Santana.
It should be a busy couple weeks for the Pirates before the July 31 deadline.
