The Pittsburgh Pirates belted five home runs in a 12-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the series opener on Tuesday night.

Joey Bart hit a grand slam, Rowdy Tellez hit the 100th homer of his career and Bryan Reynolds, Jack Suwinski and Joshua Palacios also went deep.

The Pirates (44-47) will look to keep up their hitting ways in the second game of the three-game set against the Brewers (53-39) on Wednesday night.

First pitch is set for 8:10 ET and the game will be aired on SportsNet Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Will Send Out LHP MartĂn PĂ©rez (1-4, 4.85 ERA)

PĂ©rez made his second appearance since returning from the injured list on the Fourth of July and turned in one of his best starts of the season.

The left-hander held the St. Louis Cardinals to one run on seven hits in 7.1 innings but the Pirates fell 3-2 in extras.

It was the second time this season PĂ©rez worked into the eighth inning. He completed eight against the Detroit Tigers back on Apr. 9.

PĂ©rez faced the Brewers in Milwaukee on May 15 and was tagged for nine runs on 11 hits in five innings. In his career against the Brewers, PĂ©rez is 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA in four appearances.

The Milwaukee Brewers Will Send Out RHP Tobias Myers (5-3, 3.52 ERA)

Myers last pitched in Colorado on July 4 and allowed four runs in six innings pitched and struck out five.

Though Myers opened July with a poor outing, the rookie right-hander had a sparkling 1.44 ERA in five starts in the month of June.

A fly ball pitcher, Myers has been a bit prone to the long ball with 10 home runs allowed in 64 innings on the season.

Myers made his MLB debut against the Pirates on Apr. 23. He held the Bucs to one run — an Andrew McCutchen leadoff home run — on four hits in five innings pitched.

Tidbits

  • Bryan Reynolds surpassed Bobby Bonilla for the most home runs by a switch hitter in Pirates’ history with 115.
  • Quinn Priester set a career-high with eight strikeouts in relief of Josh Fleming, who was used as an opener. Eight punch outs are the second-most in a relief outing in franchise history.
  • The Pirates have gone 52-straight games without a three-game winning streak or a three-game losing streak. They are the second team in MLB history to ever go that long, joining the Atlanta Braves from 2021-22 (55 games).
